Alarm Com Doorbell Cameras – Even if you’re an expert in smart home security or just getting started, it can be difficult to choose the right video doorbell. What features are required by the industry, and what features are simply perks? I’m here to lend a helping hand.
I’m reviewing the SkyBell Slim Line Video Doorbell in this post. However, you can still get it from Amazon and Brinks, and Link Interactive security systems, even though it’s no longer available through the SkyBell website. With a price tag of less than $170, the Slim Line falls somewhere in the middle of the pack. Does its worth justify its high price?
I’m going to go over the doorbell’s design, features, how well it works, how easy it was to set up, and finally, the mobile app you’ll use to control it. SkyBell Slim Line review: Let’s get started right away!
Alarm Com Doorbell Cameras Design
Is the SkyBell Slim Line something I’d be interested in? Unfortunately, the answer is no. With rounded corners, it’s a long, thin rectangle with a shiny black camera at the top. The lens of the camera is purple, which is a little strange. The button to activate the doorbell is located in the middle of the camera and is labeled SkyBell in an alarming (no pun intended) lime green.
The dark gray of the camera’s face bothers me; I prefer everything to be black. It’s also jarring to me because of the button’s bright green color. Barney the Purple Dinosaur is clearly in my mind when I see the camera on the video doorbell. The fact that not everyone is like me, however, does not diminish my admiration for them. Please disregard this paragraph if you don’t care about the visual appeal of your product or service.
Talk about the numbers. From -40 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, the Slim Line Video Doorbell is capable of operating. This wireless doorbell has a battery life of three to five years, which is a long time for a battery-powered device. Anytime you tell it to record something through your mobile app, it will either start recording when it detects movement or when the doorbell button is pressed.
Keep in mind that the Wi-Fi connection between your phone and your video doorbell is only as reliable as your home’s internet.
Alarm Com Doorbell Cameras Features
The doorbell has a 150-degree field of view, infrared night vision, full HD resolution with HDR, and an onboard heater to keep the doorbell from getting too cold during the winter months. Alarm.com’s Network Operations Center (NOC) uploads saved clips to the Alarm.com app, where you can access them for up to 60 days.
It would have been preferable if the footage could be stored locally, but since this is an add-on for home security systems, most people will want the monitoring professionals who are keeping an eye on their house to have access to that footage in case of an emergency.
Let’s take a look at what the Slim Line can and can’t do.
The camera on the doorbell has a 180-degree field of view, which is the widest angle possible. However, the video quality drops off after that. 720p HD, which is lower quality than 1080p HD, is supported by the camera. The camera can’t zoom in at all, so your footage may not be as clear or detailed.
Because of the doorbell’s two-way audio, you can converse with your visitors. So it comes as no surprise that the Slim Line’s two-way audio is included in its video doorbell.
If you’re using the SkyBell Slim Line at night, it’s important to remember that whoever you’re recording will be acutely aware of the camera’s existence. In contrast, with infrared, the person will be completely encased in a blackout (pun intended this time). To me, it’s more important to remain unnoticed than to capture black-and-white footage.
Using the Alarm.com app, you’ll be able to view all of your cameras’ video clips. The cloud will store 1000 motion-activated clips for a month automatically. You can either save the clips to your computer or have them emailed to you during that time. You’ll get an additional 5,000 clips for an additional $5 per month. Alarm.com deserves kudos for providing both cloud and local storage, which I appreciate.
Intuitive Platform Connectivity
Using voice commands is not supported by the SkyBell Slim Line, so if you want to use Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, you may want to look elsewhere.
Unfortunately, the Slim Line’s camera lacks artificial intelligence capabilities. People detection and facial recognition are two of the most common uses of artificial intelligence when it comes to CCTV cameras. A. I will save you from getting a slew of pointless alerts, such as when a car drives by, a squirrel runs across your lawn and even notifications from shadows themselves. The camera can only tell you when something moves, but it has no way of knowing what or who moved.
Alarm Com Doorbell Cameras Installation
An Alarm.com paid subscription is required before you can install the SkyBell Slim Line Video Doorbell. You’ll also need a SkyBell Digital Doorbell Adapter to connect your current doorbell to SkyBell.
There are two ways to install your Slim Line Video Doorbell: you can hire a professional or do it yourself.
Alarm Com Doorbell Cameras Smart App
You may have gotten a little lost in the weeds here. Despite the fact that SkyBell has a mobile app, this only works with their current cameras, the aforementioned SkyBell and HD. You’ll use the Alarm.com app with the Slim Line. What can you do and how customers feel about the app will be the subject of discussion.
There are a number of features built into the Alarm.com app that make it possible for you to livestream footage from your doorbell camera, speak to your visitors, make the camera record, view old footage, and if you wish, turn off your cameras.
SkyBell Slim Line Video Doorbell received 4.4 stars from both the Apple and Google Play stores in a rare turn of events. The app appears to work well, as evidenced by the overwhelming majority of reviews giving it a rating of 5 stars. There were many complaints about a long delay in receiving notifications from the video doorbell in the reviews I looked at.
When our system was first installed, the app worked perfectly.” No, the doorbell notification is so slow that when my phone tells me someone is at the door, they’ve already gone.
