Installing August Smart Lock – Enhancing your home’s security is as simple as installing a smart lock on your door. In addition to being smaller and smarter than previous models, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock is also more convenient to use. August’s Wi-Fi Smart Lock installation is described here, but the process is the same for other August models. Make sure to check the model’s online installation guide before purchasing it.
First things first before Installing August Smart Lock
Things to check before dismantling anything on your door. If your door doesn’t close all the way, it’s not safe. In order to calibrate and operate, a smart lock will struggle if you need to push it or pull it on its hinges.

Method 1 Installing August Smart Lock
The First Step, get the app.
The August Home app is available for iOS and Android devices. Log in if you already have an account, or create one if you haven’t. To set up a smart lock, select “set up a device” and then “set up a smart lock.” As soon as possible, scan the QR code printed on the lock’s faceplate with your phone. You’ll get step-by-step instructions on how to install the software.
Second Step, Remove the thumb latch on your door.
The August lock will be installed on the interior of your door. As a first step, remove the two screws on either side of the lock’s thumb latch. The front of the deadbolt can be held in place with a piece of tape once the screws have been removed. Locate the August mounting plate in your packaging and remove the thumb latch.
Third Step, Add a mounting plate and adapter to your work.
In order to align with your door’s deadbolt housing, the included mounting plate has two adjustable screw holes. The screws from the thumb latch should be inserted into the front of the mounting plate and tightened by hand.
The next step is to pick the appropriate adapter for your deadbolt based on its tailpiece shape and orientation. August’s website has a useful chart for this, and the app will also provide assistance. Place the adapter into the mounting plate and onto the tailpiece, with the raised triangle shapes pointing upward, as shown in the diagram.
Fourth Step, Assemble August Lock
Add the lock mechanism now. Slide the August lock over the tailpiece and secure it to the mounting plate by raising the side wing latches. Ensure that the back of the lock is flush with the door before closing it.. Close the wing latches on both sides of the lock to secure it in place.
Fifth Step, Plug in the battery.
Press down on the August logo and remove the magnetic faceplate to insert the two CR123 batteries. Remove the plastic battery tab and replace the faceplate on the August lock with the logo at the bottom while holding the batteries in place. Once the lock has been installed, the August Home app can be used to continue setting up the device. Attach the included DoorSense sensors now and calibrate the door opening and closing distances according to the app’s instructions.
Final Step to Installing August Smart Lock, It’s time to finish the app’s setup.
You’ll need to calibrate your lock and connect it to your home’s Wi-Fi once the installation is complete. Tap “continue” to begin calibration if the app is still open in the installation instructions section. To connect the lock to your Wi-Fi, enter your network password. To use your lock, simply complete these final two steps. Additional options for naming your home and lock, as well as adding users and setting features like auto-lock and chime volume, are available in the August app.
Method 2 Installing August Smart Lock

#1 Prepare your current deadbolt for this task.
The keyed side of the lock can be held in place using the supplied adhesive strip.
#2 Discard the old thumb-latch and install a new one.
Remove the screws from your current deadbolt thumbturn by unscrewing and then removing them. Remove the additional back plate if there is one. It’s important to position the thumbturn in such a way that both screws can be accessed.

#4 Assemble the Mounting Plate

#5 Attach a proper adapter
Take care to attach the tailpiece to the correct adapter. If you are using the correct adapter, one of the triangle-shaped nubs should face up.
How to select an adapter:
#6 Unscrew the wing latches and remove the wings.
To prepare for mounting, pull out both side wing latches on each side of the vehicle.
#7 Connect the Wi-Fi Smart Lock to the router.
Attach your smart lock to the mounting plate by sliding it over the adapter. Check to see that the back of the lock is flush with the door and that the outer ring is oriented correctly in relation to the deadbolt.
Clamp both wing latches to the mounting plate completely to ensure that the lock is secure.
Turn the outer ring to lock and unlock the door to ensure that everything is operating smoothly.
#8 Disassemble the faceplate.
To activate the August logo, press down on it, which is located at the bottom of the faceplate. Remove the faceplate from the top by grabbing it with your fingers.
#9 Disconnect the battery tab.
Remove the plastic battery isolation tab while still holding the batteries in place. Check to see that the battery is properly seated in its compartment before proceeding.
#10 The final step to Installing August Smart Lock
Replace the faceplate on the Smart Lock, making sure the August logo is at the bottom of the faceplate.
